SUMMARY:Goya's Mastery in Prints\: \"Los Caprichos\" and \"Correspondence\: In Relation to Goya\"
DESCRIPTION:UAMA concludes the presentation of \"Goya's Mastery in Prints\,\" a four-part series of revolutionary print suites by Francisco de Goya on loan from the Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University in Dallas\, Texas. The fourth and final exhibition in the series\, \"Los Caprichos\" (The Caprices)\, showcases the artist's most influential suite - 80 aquatint etchings that satirize the folly of individual human behavior and critique elements of 18th century Spanish society with striking originality in design and in concept.Corresponding to Goya's \"Los Caprichos\,\" the museum presents Maria Brito's \"Las Goyescas\" and Enrique Chagoya's \"The Return to Goyas Caprichos.\" This fourth and final installation in the UAMA series \"Correspondence\: In Relation to Goya\" showcases the work of two living artists in dialogue with Francisco Goya’s most famous print suite\, \"Los Caprichos\" (1799).

SUMMARY:\"Foreshadows\"
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by her studies in history and classical archaeological research\, Laura Atchinson creates works that explore how the past influences the makeup of who we are and its continual effect within our present world. Through her art\, Atchinson studies how our own times and memories interact with the buildup of history and the overgrowth of nature. Using an intermixture of drawing and paint\, these layers and maps create a contrast between abstract forms that end up creating more representational images of the world in which we live.An opening reception will be held May 9 at 5\:30 p.m. in the Kachina Lounge. The reception is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Lee Friendlander\: American Monuments
DESCRIPTION: Lee Friedlander's photographs of statues\, obelisks and plaques nestled within compositions that also include cars\, tourists and other signs of contemporary life point to a commutative impulse and collective sense of history. This exhibition features selections from the center's collection of Friedlander's \"American Monument\" series\, which he first published in 1976 and continues to expand today. Selective comparisons\, by artists such as Eugène Atget\, Walker Evans and Garry Winogrand\, suggest point of departure for Friedlander's unique exploration of a rich and inexhaustible theme.

SUMMARY:\"Of Flesh\, Form and Matter\: Sculpture Selected from the UAMA Collections\"
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to present selections from the museum's diverse and far-ranging sculpture holdings. Rarely on view as a grouping\, these works examine the myriad ways that artists from the 18th century to the present have approached the notion of sculpture.Through a selection of artists from the UAMA permanent collections\, this exhibition explores longstanding sculptural traditions and contemporary departures. As a survey\, it suggests the vitality of ongoing artistic interests in flesh (corporeality and decay)\, form (structure and substance)\, and matter (materiality and meaning)\, from the mimetic effects of realist traditions\, through the organic and geometric abstraction of Modernism\, to the minimalist and conceptual endeavors of recent decades.
