DESCRIPTION:A special advance preview of the American Experience \"We Shall Remain\" television documentary includes a special appearance by episode co-producer Julianna Brannum.Doors open at 5\:30 p.m. with the presentation starting at 6 p.m. Seating is on a first-come\, first-seated basis. Paid public parking is available at the Park Avenue Garage\, on the Northeast corner of Speedway Boulevard and Park Avenue.The sneak preview event will include segments of \"We Shall Remain\" that have not yet been broadcast and a conversation with Brannum moderated by Larry Estes\, independent film producer and assistant professor of practice in The University of Arizona's School of Media Arts. Estes is a former senior vice president of feature film acquisition at RCA/Columbia Pictures and has been involved with more than 60 films. This event is presented in partnership with the UA Hanson Film Institute and with support by The Amerind Foundation.The American Experience \"We Shall Remain\" miniseries begins April 13 at 9 p.m.\, and the series continues on Mondays at 9 p.m. through May 11 on KUAT6 and KUAT-HD. The event is part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of KUAT public broadcasting in southern Arizona.

DESCRIPTION:Since 1998\, 2\,000 French cinema professionals vote each year to determine Les Lutins honoring short films. Past \"Leprechaun\" awards were the first major public recognition of film talents such as director Francois Ozon and actress Ludivine Sagnier.Les Lutins\, part two\, features five of the 25 nominees for 2008. All have been featured in film festivals around the world. \"Even Pigeons Go to Heaven\" by Samuel Tourneux was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animation Short.Shot in different parts of France\, the four live action productions examine contemporary problems - corporate culture\, racism and layoffs - as well as the age-old problems of relations between fathers and sons.The films are\: \"Dans leur peau\" (\"In Their Shoes\") by Arnaud Malherbe\"Bonne nuit Malik\" (\"Good Night Malik\") by Bruno Danan\"Le Vacant\" (\"Time Out\") by Julien Guetta\"La Promenade\" by Marina de Van.All films are in French with subtitles in English.The films are presented by The University of Arizona department of French and Italian as part of Humanities Week. SUMMARY:Documentary Film -  \"Nazi Skinheads\: Hate Crime in Ukraine\"
DESCRIPTION:This documentary traces the beginning of the Nazi Holocaust on Soviet soil\, then brings the story up to the present with footage of neo-Nazi skinhead groups continuing attacks in Ukrainian cities today. The film was directed by Daniel Reynolds\, who was a Peace Corps worker in the Ukraine at the time he became interested in the film's subject after reading a seminal book by Professor John Garrard of the The University of Arizona department of Russian and Slavic studies\, and Carol Garrard. An additional short documentary\, which focuses on a massacre at Berdichev\, will also be shown. The films will be introduced by Theresa Polowy\, head of the department of Russian and Slavic studies\, and the Garrards will be on hand to expand on the film and answer questions. SUMMARY:Brazilian film\:  \"O Céu de Suely\" (Love for Sale\:  Suely in the Sky)
DESCRIPTION:\"O Céu de Suely\,\" directed by Karim Ainouz and released in 2006\, follows Hermila/Suely as she returns to her Northeastern Brazilian hometown after a failed attempt at making it in the big city of São Paulo. She works odd jobs and eventually decides to raffle herself off in an effort to raise enough money to leave the town again. This film received nominations and awards for best actress\, best film and best director by the Havana Film Festival\, the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival and others.  The film will be introduced by Lucy Blaney\, a doctoral student in Spanish and Portuguese\, who is using this film in her dissertation research on the representations of prostitution in film.  There will be a brief question and answer session and discussion after the film. DESCRIPTION:\"Forgotten Lives\" is a new documentary directed by department of classics professor David Soren\, with the participation of University of Arizona students as researchers and actors. The film\, which examines the lives of three individuals whose accomplishments have been lost to the history books\, was made in collaboration with KUAT to be a pilot for a series of the same name. See enticing film and photos of vaudevillian Fred Stone\, who created the role of the Scarecrow in the original \"Wizard of Oz\" musical\; Annette Kellerman\, who pioneered competitive swimming for women and launched the form-fitting swimsuit\; and Frank Calvert\, who discovered the lost city of Troy. UA President Robert N. Shelton will welcome the audience\, and members of the UA synchronized swimming team\, who participated in the film\, will be in attendance.
