DESCRIPTION: The second of the four-part First Wednesday Film Series\, \"Religions and Traditions\,\" presented by the Center for Middle Eastern Studies. All film screenings are free and open to the public. \"A richly textured\, thoughtful exploration of the hypocrisies inherent when fundamentalists engage in commercial ventures\, 'Takva - A Man's Fear of God' reps a strong new voice in Turkish cinema. Helmer Ozer Kiziltan's bigscreen debut deservedly bagged the lion's share of prizes at Antalya's national fest\; awards are possible off-shore as well.\" Review from Variety.com Director Ã-zer Kiziltan Country of Origin Turkey Language Turkish Year/Time 2006/96 minutes Presenter Ufuk CoÅŸkun\, Ph.D. candidate in anthropology

SUMMARY:\"SIZZLE\: A Global Warming Comedy\" - Meet the Director\, One Night Only!
DESCRIPTION:The University of Arizona's School of Earth and Environmental Sciences\, or SEES\, is sponsoring a special presentation of \"SIZZLE\: A Global Warming Comedy.\" Writer-director Randy Olson will do a Q&A with the audience following the screening. He will be joined by UA climate scientists Julia Cole and Diana Liverman\, biologist Lisa Graumlich and journalism professor Jacqueline Sharkey. \"SIZZLE\" is a unique hybrid of three genres - mockumentary\, documentary and reality - that Variety called \"an exceedingly clever vehicle for making science engaging to a general audience.\" It is the only U.S. movie that presents both sides of the global warming issue and is more timely than ever given the rocky waters the global warming movement has recently hit. The film screening is a highlight of the school's first annual EarthWeek\, March 29-April 2\, a celebration of student research in the earth and environmental sciences. Karl Flessa\, director of SEES and head of the UA department of geosciences\, says\, \"It's all about science and communicating science. Randy's participation demonstrates that science isn't just important\, it's important and fun.\" Olson\, a marine biologist (Harvard) turned filmmaker (University of Southern California)\, also wrote the new book \"Don't Be Such a Scientist\: Talking Substance in an Age of Style.\" After the Q&A\, he will do a book signing in The Loft's lobby. The film runs 85 minutes and is not rated. Tickets are on sale at The Loft. &nbsp\;For more information contact Gabriela Guglielmo at 520-621-2027 or gbg@email.arizona.edu
