SUMMARY:The Role of Dietary Supplements in Health and Disease
DESCRIPTION:Part of a series of Living Healthy with Arthritis monthly talks presented by the Arizona Arthritis Center at The University of Arizona.Americans spent an estimated $20.3 billion on dietary supplements in 2004\, and many people with arthritis wonder whether these supplements might provide relief from arthritis pain. Mary Marian\, a registered dietitian for almost 20 years\, will provide an update on the latest research\, claims and questions surrounding dietary supplements\, including those related to arthritis.Should you be taking dietary supplements? Can they be harmful? How do you know if you are getting a good product? Get answers to these questions and more.Marian lectures to medical students and physicians about nutrition at the UA College of Medicine and the college's Program in Integrative Medicine. She is a clinical dietician with the Arizona Cancer Center\, nutritionist for the Sunstone Cancer Support Centers\, clinical dietitian at Northwest Medical Center and member of the American Dietetic Association.
