DESCRIPTION:The University of Arizona Arthritis Center is currently looking for volunteers to participate in a systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) study. You may qualify to participate if you\:Are 18-70 years oldHave a diagnosis of SLEHave not had IVIG\, cytoxan\, or anti-TNF therapy in the last yearThe study is six months long and includes monthly sub-cutaneous injections of study drug or placebo. After six months\, there is an option to enter a 12 month open label extension where participants receive the investigational drug with no possibility of placebo. Study related medical care and services are provided at no cost to study participants.

DESCRIPTION:Sheryl Berman will give a talk titled \"Alternative Laboratory Tests\: The Good\, the Bad\, the Unproven Presented.\"  This talk will give an update on alternative laboratory testing with regard to validating and application to clinical practice.  Berman is currently the dean of health professions at Lane Community College in Eugene\, Ore. She was formerly the executive director of the Health Science\, Education and Wellness Institute in Bellevue\, Wash. and dean of basic and medical sciences at Bastyr University in Seattle as well as laboratory director at Bastyr University. Bermans' research areas have included immunological responses to HIV\, the effects of probiotics on immune parameters and the validity and evaluation of laboratory testing.  Objectives\: To learn about the criteria to evaluate alternative laboratory testing To provide up to date information on multiple alternative laboratory tests The University Of Arizona College of Medicine at the Arizona Health Sciences Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
