SUMMARY:University Community Chorus and Orchestra presents \"Anniversaries\"
DESCRIPTION:The University Community Chorus will present a program titled \"Anniversaries\,\"
honoring the 200th anniversary of the death of Austrian composer Franz
Joseph Haydn and celebrating the 200th anniversary of Felix Mendelssohn's
birth. The program will open with two works by Haydn. The first\, \"Salve Regina\,\" is a
motet in five movements featuring soprano Christi Amonson with the chorus
and orchestra. Amonson returns for a second performance with the University
Community Chorus\, having delighted audiences with her portrayal of Adele\,
in excerpts from \"Die Fledermaus\,\" last spring.Conducted by Elizabeth Schauer\, Mendelssohn's \"Psalm 42\" comprises the second
half of the program. The work was frequently performed\, often with the
composer at the podium\, during Mendelssohn's lifetime. Mezzo-soprano Robyn Rocklein\,
who recently performed as Lucretia in the UA Opera Theatre's production \"The
Rape of Lucretia\,\" is the featured soloist. She is joined by a quartet of
male voices including Christopher Hutchinson\, Dennis Tamblyn\, Christopher
Thomas and Evan Long Casler\, all frequent performers on the Tucson
classical music scene.
