Written by the composer of \"Cavalleria Rusticana\,\" the opera will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. The production features outstanding graduate students double cast in leading roles and the Arizona Symphony Orchestra\, conducted by Charles Bontrager\, newly appointed assistant director of orchestral activities. The story of the opera is one of love and matchmaking. In Alsace during the late 19th century\, Fritz\, a wealthy middle-aged landowner\, has a bet with the Rabbi David that he will always remain a bachelor. However\, David notices that Fritz is captivated by Suzel\, the daughter of one of his tenants. When David mischievously tells Fritz that he has found Suzel a young husband\, Fritz is so upset that he leaves without a word to the young woman\, who is in love with him. She later appeals to Fritz to save her from the so-called marriage and he finally confesses that he loves her. David has won the bet and he donates his winnings\, a vineyard\, to Suzel.
