Rival men and women's club teams from The University of Arizona and Arizona State University invite the public to dress outrageously and cheer their team on during the free events.
The rival men and women's club volleyball teams from The University of Arizona and Arizona State University will compete on Friday.
The UA's Department of Campus Recreation will host the club games at Bear Down Gym, located on the UA Mall. The women's volleyball game is at 5 p.m. on Friday and the men's volleyball game will follow at 7 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited to cheer their team on.
"Fans are encouraged to have fun and dress outrageously," said Kevin Scott, Arizona Sport Clubs program assistant.
The UA has a number of club teams – they including men and women's rugby, ice hockey, synchronized swimming and wheelchair athletics – which allow University students to play in competitive sports at the intercollegiate level. Many times team members will compete against other University teams in the state and across the country.
The Arizona and ASU women's team met last month in San Diego. The Wildcats took the win with a final score of 27-25 and 25-13 in the two-set match.
For the men, the two teams last met Oct. 18 at ASU. The final score (23-25, 21-25, 24-26) resulted in a win for ASU.
During the upcoming game, the top 10 fans with the wildest attire will win win prizes, such as Arizona men's club volleyball shirts, Scott said. Other prizes to be announced at the concession stand.
"The matches should be an exciting start to an exciting ASU-UA weekend, with the football game Saturday night," Scott added.
"It is a big game for both teams, because the women usually don't get to have home games. So it is a big match that will have bragging rights on the line, until they meet again next spring," Scott said. "It is just a good way for these two teams to end their fall playing in front of an excited crowd at Bear Down Gym."
