The Arizona Cancer Center's Better Than Ever fitness training program is recruiting participants for the spring season. BTE, a supportive outreach program of the Cancer Center, encourages people of all fitness levels to make exercise a part of daily life through running, walking and biking in a fun, non-competitive environment.
BTE provides participants with a training schedule, training tips, a weekly newsletter and multiple weekly training sessions. Volunteer training leaders guide and motivate team members as they all build mileage and train for their event.
Participants can choose to train for:
- Catalina State Park 5.5-mile Trail Race on April 11
- Tour of the Tucson Mountains 27-mile course on April 26
- Cinco de Mayo 10K Run/Walk on May 4
Spring season registration is open through March 9.
Better Than Ever is hosting a spring season kick-off event Saturday, Feb. 21, at Ramada G at Brandi Fenton Park, 3482 E. River Road. New participants should arrive at 9 a.m. for an information session. At 10 a.m. all team members will meet their training leaders and each other, listen to the experiences of past participants and jumpstart their training with a one-mile walk on the river path followed by light refreshments.
Since its inception in 2000, BTE has raised more than $1.3 million for women's cancer research at the Arizona Cancer Center and encouraged more than 2,600 individuals of all ages, sizes and abilities to increase their fitness.
The Arizona Cancer Center is the state's premier National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. With primary locations a The University of Arizona in Tucson and in Scottsdale, the Center has more than a dozen research and education offices throughout the state and 300 physician- and scientist-members working to prevent and cure cancer.
