The public is invited to hear Donna Wolk describe the clinical and laboratory aspects of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus – also known as MRSA, pronounced "mersa" – the most common hospital-acquired infection in the United States. She will tell the story behind her laboratories' success in battling the pathogen known as the "superbug." Wolk's talk will be followed by a tour of the BIO5 Institute's laboratories.
Wolk is the division chief for clinical microbiology and molecular microbiology at the Arizona Health Science Center, with appointments in the departments of pathology and medicine. She is also a principle investigator in the BIO5 Institute, where she directs the Infectious Disease Research Core Laboratory, specializing in clinical and translational research.
