Writer Gary Nabhan to Read for UA

Gary Nabhan, an award-winning poet and UA research social scientist, will read his work during the UA Prose Series.
Award-winning poet, essayist and folklorist Gary Nabhan will read his work next month during The University of Arizona Prose Series.
The reading, to be held March 5, will begin at 8 p.m. at the UA Poetry Center, which is located at 1508 E. Helen Street.
The event is co-sponsored by the University's English department at the College of Humanities.
Nabhan is an Arab-American writer, lecturer, food and farming advocate, folklorist and conservationist whose work has long been rooted in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands.
He recently accepted a tenured professorship as a research social scientist based at the Southwest Center at the UA where he interacts with faculty and graduate students engaged in creative writing and reconciliation ecology research.
Despite his new position, Nabhan continues to advise or consult with many nonprofit organizations, such as Renewing America's Food Traditions.
For his literary non-fiction, grassroots conservation and community-based ethnobiology projects, Nabhan has been honored with the John Burroughs Medal for Nature Writing, a MacArthur "genius" award, a Lannan Literary Award, a Pew Fellowship in Conservation and Environment, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Conservation Biology, and a Quivira Coalition award for excellence in science that contributes to "the radical center."
Nabhan's book "Where Our Food Comes From," critiques the global simplification of agricultural system and calls for a "green revolution."
