Nick Georgiou: Life-Death-Resurrection Exhibition

The University of Arizona Union Gallery presents Nick Georgiou: Life-Death-Resurrection. New York sculptor and filmmaker Nick Georgiou will be at the UA as a visiting artist this spring. Georgiou has exhibited work in Soho and London, has been featured by the Wooster Collective, and was commissioned by the Oxford University Press to create a permanent, large-scale paper installation in its Manhattan office. His sculptures regenerate natural source material, infusing it with layers of literal and metaphorical meaning in a style that is distinctively his own. Each paper sculpture is hand-carved and textured so as to encourage interaction with the viewer. As our culture steadily moves away from paper and the printed word, Georgiou rescues the “relic” of the 21st century: the printed word.

Concerned with issues of recycling, sustainability and evolving forms of modern communication, Georgiou will be creating new, site-specific work here in Tucson. The gallery will be transformed into a living set for his creatures to exist and interact with visitors. A series of workshops, lectures and classroom visits are planned for the month of April.
