Two visiting artists, one from Japan and one from China, exhibit works at the UA's Joseph Gross Gallery.

Japanese artist Yozo Takada and Chinese artist Huang Zhiling express their perspectives on the relationship between person and place in the exhibit "Spheres" at The University of Arizona's Joseph Gross Gallery this month.

Both visiting artists, inspired by their surroundings and drawing from different backgrounds, depict the human interplay within the global environment.

Takada said he "aims to consider our life and world from an objective point of view" through photographing artificial environments that alter earthly landscapes but simultaneously support an abundance of biodiversity. His photographic subjects include the UA's Biosphere 2.

Huang internalizes Tibet's Buddhist society in China by exploring the belief of "parisuddha." Stripped of detail and exactness, he seeks to outwardly reflect the inner purity essential to the Tibetan Buddhist way of life.

Region, religion, spirituality and environment remain untranslatable. Similarly, his characters are uncorrupted, free to live a life of introspection in an unflawed world.

The Joseph Gross Gallery exhibits work by students, faculty and nationally renowned artists working in a broad range of media and concepts. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.

The UA School of Art is located at the corner of Park and Speedway, 1031 N. Olive Road. The galleries are located between the Center for Creative Photography and the UA Museum of Art.

Parking is available on Second Street east of Park Avenue, or in the parking garage north of Speedway on Park Avenue.
