Google Apps for Education is under consideration to be the new e-mail service provider for University of Arizona students, but email is just the start of the services students would receive. UA users would also have access to an entire suite of communication and collaboration tools, including messaging, shared calendars and real-time sharing and editing of documents, presentations, spreadsheets, Web sites and labs.
If signed into a contract, all UA student email (NetID@email.arizona.edu, the official means of communication for the University) would be provided by Google; faculty and staff would be able to opt in to the Google service. Google educational contracts provide two main advantages to university users over free account users:
