
University of Arizona President Robert N. Shelton will join writer and historian Bonnie Henry and Patricia Preciado-Martin at the Women’s Plaza of Honor to unveil the newly installed kiosk, an interactive, on-site computer for sharing the life stories of plaza honorees. The celebration marks the end of phase one of the plaza campaign’s efforts to honor women and raise funds for a graduate fellowship in Women’s Studies.
Entertainment will be provided by Grupo Folklorico Miztontli and there will be refreshments, sponsored by Bill Nugent.
A panel discussion on public history and the value of public memorials will precede the celebration at 3 p.m. in the women’s studies department conference room at 925 N. Tyndall Ave. Joining Henry and Preciado-Martin on the panel will be Maribel Alvarez of the Southwest Studies Center and Janice Monk of geography department and the Southwest Institute for Research on Women.
The celebration is sponsored by the department of women’s studies, the Women’s Studies Advisory Council and the Plaza Executive Committee, with support from the Women’s Resource Center. Additional thanks go to the UA Commission on the Status of Women, the Office of the Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Office of Vice President for Research and the Office of the Provost for funding support.
