UA to Make Major Announcement on Expanding Campus Solar Energy

On Earth Day, more than 12 hours of activities will engage people to think about responsibilities and opportunities in a fast-changing world.

Earth Day events include a UA Block Party, demonstrations, a film screening and other activities.
More than 12 hours of activities and the announcement of a new partnership highlight the day's events.
The University of Arizona and Arizona Public Service Energy Services will announce a partnership to bring more solar energy to the University campus, in the midst of daylong campus celebrations of Earth Day.
The UA and Tucson communities are invited to attend the news conference which will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the James and Perry Rogers Plaza, which is located on the south side of the Second Street Garage.
During the news conference, UA President Robert N. Shelton and APS Energy Services Managing Director Bob Georgeoff will announce details of a partnership to advance solar technology on campus.
APS Energy Services is a company with a long history of completing comprehensive and innovative energy and renewable projects in the Southwest. The company seeks to promote and implement the efficient use of energy and develop customized energy solutions for its partners, seeking renewable energy alternatives where applicable.
Throughout the day, the UA together with the city of Tucson, Pima County and local businesses will host events in one of the biggest Earth Day celebrations ever held on campus.
"The UA has always served the people of Arizona by addressing the most critical issues facing our society," Shelton said.
"I am proud of University students, staff and faculty who have joined with government and industry to create an Earth Day celebration that will engage people in thinking about their roles, responsibilities and opportunities in a globally changing environment."

11 a.m.-3 p.m. UA Campus Sustainability Walking Tour
1 p.m.-5 p.m. UA Environmental Summit, Student Union Gallagher Theater
