To commemorate the historic July 20, 1969 landing of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon – when astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first men to walk on a celestial body other than the Earth – Arizona Public Media presents encore broadcasts of these public television programs:
"The Moon"
July 19 at 3 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on PBS-HD Channel 6
This fascinating BBC documentary looks at the human race's relationship with the moon, from its elaborate rock formations and the process of mapping its movements to the Apollo missions that explored it. "The Moon" also looks at the moons of other planets, such as Jupiter's Titan and the ice-covered Europa, which is the current best bet for life outside Earth. Future NASA plans to build a habitat on the moon are also examined, along with the plans of other organizations which also plan to colonize our closest celestial body. See an encore broadcast on July 20 at 2 p.m.
"Inside: Space Launch"
July 21 at 10 p.m. on PBS-HD Channel 6
What does it feel like to be blasted into space, traveling more than 20,000 mph? "Inside: Space Launch" goes behind the scenes of a manned space launch from the Russian Baikonur Cosmodrome facility, as seen through the eyes of the men who ride the rocket: a cosmonaut, an astronaut and even a space tourist. Encore broadcast July 25 at 3 p.m. on the UA Channel.
