Country Legend Randy Travis Performing at Centennial Hall
UApresents will continue its summer concert series on Aug. 22 with country music legend Randy Travis.
UApresents continues its new summer series with country legend Randy Travis at The University of Arizona's Centennial Hall. Celebrating the release of his recent greatest hits album, "I Told You So: The Ultimate Hits of Randy Travis," the evening will feature his country classics including "Turn It Around" and "Forever and Ever Amen."
After reviewing the album, Matt Bjorke of Roughstock.com proclaimed Travis to be "one of the most influential country singers of the last 30 years and he, not George Strait or Garth Brooks, was the first multi-platinum country star. So it's fair to say that without Randy Travis we'd not have country music as we now know it."
Born on May 4, 1959, Randy Bruce Traywick was the second of six children. His father Harold, raised turkeys, bred horses and ran a construction business. His mother Bobbie worked in a textile plant.
By the time Randy was 10 years old, he and his brother, Ricky, had their own duo, playing throughout the South at fiddlers' conventions, private parties, VFW halls and anywhere they could draw a crowd. Even at his young age Randy's voice startled people with its resonance.
His last album of completely new material, "Around the Bend," was released in 2008 and sold more albums in its opening week than any other album in his career.
With record sales of more than 25 million, 22 number-one hits, six number-one albums, five Grammys, six Country Music Association awards, 10 American Music Awards, six Dove Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Randy Travis has enjoyed an illustrious career.
