
Poet, essayist, and University of Arizona creative writing teacher Alison Hawthorne Deming will give an interdisciplinary talk that includes environmental science, literary analysis and environmental ethics. Deming – author of seven books, including her newest fall 2009 arrival, "Rope," which tackles Hurricane Katrina, Greek myth, and the search for extraterrestrial life – has received multiple awards for her work, including but not limited to a Pushcart Prize, a Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets and a Wallace Stegner fellowship.
