Mental Illness Awareness Week Events at the UA

A book display from Sept. 26 to Oct. 16 will feature books about mental illness recovery.

The following events will take place on Oct. 8:

  • Book signing with Kate McLaughlin, Tucson author of “Mommy I’m Still In Here: One Family’s Journey With Bipolar Disorder,” 12-1 p.m.
  • Depression screening/Q&A about mental illness with the University of Arizona Campus Health Service's Counseling and Psychological Services, or CAPS, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Materials and referrals available.
  • Q&A/university information regarding the Rehabilitation Program offered by the UA, presented by the College of Education's disabilities and psychoeducational studies department, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Q&A/information regarding mental illness facts and myths, presented by the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southern Arizona, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Materials and referrals available.
  • Display of Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup's proclamation declaring Oct. 4-Oct. 10, 2009 as mental illness awareness week, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • The movie “Depression on College Campuses” will be screened on the large monitor on the west side of the BookStore, viewable by all entering the establishment. The film is presented by CAPS.
