The public is invited to take part in a free training class for Compression-Only CPR with hands-on training on lifelike mannequins, presented by University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center. Experienced and specially trained medical students will be available to walk you through the necessary steps and answer your questions.
Compression-Only CPR, or Hands-Only CPR, as the American Heart Association calls it, is an easier and more efficient way to help a victim of cardiac arrest. Developed right here in Tucson at the Sarver Heart Center, the technique has been endorsed by the American Heart Association. Compression-Only CPR is easy to learn, easy to remember and easy to perform. There is no need for mouth-to-mouth breathing.
Research has shown that calling 911, followed by continuous chest compressions, is the most effective way to increase the chance of survival of sudden cardiac arrest in adults.
No pre-registration is necessary. This is NOT a certification class. Participants will receive a letter stating that they completed the training. Free parking is available in UMC's patient/visitor parking garage.
