SUMMARY:UA ADVANCE Distinguished Scientist Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:Amy Childress\, chairwoman of the department of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Nevada\, Reno\, will visit the University of Arizona as a UA ADVANCE Distinguished Scientist to give a public lecture on her research as part of the chemical and environmental engineering department lecture series. She will also give an informal career talk geared toward graduate students\, post-docs and junior faculty. Glenn Schrader\, associate dean and professor in the UA chemical and environmental engineering department nominated Childress for the award. Childress is an accomplished researcher and leader in the field of water and wastewater treatment. In particular\, she has significant research that parallels UA efforts in water desalination\, brine reduction and membrane technologies. Desalination will be critically important in the future of Arizona water as Colorado river water has a high salt content. In addition to being a leading scientist in her field\, Childress actively serves in various prestigious committees and groups.
