'A Prairie Home Companion' Live in Tucson

Fans are invited to join Garrison Keillor and his cast for a recording and broadcast of the popular radio program live from Tucson on Jan. 30.

Arizona fans of Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" radio show have a chance to be a part of its national broadcast on Saturday, Jan. 30. The program will be broadcast live from the Tucson Convention Center. 

Audience warm-up is set to begin at 3:45 p.m. and the live broadcast begins at 4 p.m.

The no retakes show will be hosted by Garrison Keillor, who will be joined by The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band and the Royal Academy of Radio Actors.

The special guests for the Tucson performance include iMas, accordion player Joel Guzman and singer Andra Suchy.

Tickets are available for purchase from Ticketmaster and the Tucson Civic Center Box Office. The live performance of "A Prairie Home Companion" is sponsored by Arizona Public Media.

"A Prairie Home Companion," now in its 36th season, is heard each week by more than 4 million listeners on 590 public radio stations across the U.S.

An encore television broadcast of the American Masters documentary, "Garrison Keillor: The Man on the Radio in the Red Shoes" will be aired Monday, Jan. 25 at 9 p.m. on PBS-HD Channel 6.

The documentary takes a candid look at the private man behind "A Prairie Home Companion" and profiles his current live performance tour.

UA theater arts students also will get a chance to visit with UA alumna, Sue Scott, who is a cast member of "A Prairie Home Companion." Scott will take time out of her tour schedule to speak with students at the UA School of Theater Arts on Friday, Jan. 29.

"A Prairie Home Companion" is regularly broadcast in southern Arizona on Saturdays at 4 p.m. on Classical KUAT (90.5 FM and 89.7 FM) and Sundays at 10 a.m. on KUAZ (89.1 FM and 1550 AM). Both radio stations are available via audio stream from the Arizona Public Media Web site.
