The SCA – College of St. Felix conducts fighter training and practice every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Highland Commons.
Learn armored (hardsuit) combat and fencing. Loaner gear is available, but please bring your own "cup."
The Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA, is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts, skills and traditions of pre-17th-century Europe. If it was done in the Middle Ages or Renaissance, odds are you'll find someone in the SCA interested in recreating it.
The group started in 1966, when a few friends who were history buffs and science fiction/fantasy fans hosted a big outdoor party in Berkeley, Calif. Today, the society exists worldwide in cities, college campuses and military bases. At one time there was even a group on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, known as the "Shire of Curragh Mor" (anglicized Irish for "Big Boat").
For more information on the group, go to the SCA Web site or watch these YouTube clips from CBS Sunday Morning and the Voice of America.
This event NEVER rains out. See you Thursday. Come join the current Middle Ages.
Audience: All, Small (1-50)
