Tradition Revisited: Contemporary Klezmer Rondos for Flute, Voice and Orchestra

The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies' Campus Lecture Series presents an off-campus concert by Rachel Kaplan, a Doctor of Musical Arts degree candidate in the University of Arizona School of Music.

Kaplan will present a blend of Old World entertainment and classical music, as she speaks about klezmer music and performs Paul Schoenfield's "Concerto: Klezmer Rondos for Flute, Male Vocalist and Orchestra."

She will discuss the development of klezmer music, emphasizing performance and compositional practices, and will focus on the role of the flute in klezmer music – and particularly in the music of contemporary composer Schoenfield. Following the presentation, there will be a performance of the "Klezmer Rondos," with an orchestra, male vocalist and Kaplan playing flute.

Kaplan is currently pursuing her doctorate in musical arts at the UA. This lecture recital is presented in partial fulfillment of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in flute performance.

This event is sponsored by the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies and the UA College of Fine Art, School of Music.
