Cox Communications is the first corporate sponsor of the Arizona Assurance scholarship program at the UA.

Cox Communications is the first corporate sponsor of the Arizona Assurance scholarship program at The University of Arizona.

The company has pledged $100,000 to the Arizona Assurance Endowment Fund. The financial aid program enables students to earn undergraduate degrees in four years with no college debt.

"It's critically important that our bright and capable students continue to have access to a college education, especially during these challenging times," said Lisa Lovallo, vice president, Cox Communications of Southern Arizona. "Our partnership with the Arizona Assurance scholarship program allows us to directly invest in our state's future workforce."

Launched last fall, Arizona Assurance covers college costs – including tuition, books and room and board – for in-state students from families with an adjusted gross income of $42,400 or less per year.

The program aims to increase student retention and to provide a successful transition to college. A faculty mentorship program pairs faculty members with scholars during their four years of study. Students also have access to internship opportunities and career guidance through major local employers such as Cox Communications.

Arizona Assurance addresses a key priority of UA President Robert N. Shelton to provide state residents greater access to higher education.
