UA students will perform a series of stories by Susan Lowell for school-age children.

A series of stories written for children by Susan Lowell will be personified on stage.

"Way Out West," an interactive performance to be held at The University of Arizona next month, is based on Lowell's stories. The stories have been adapted for the stage and directed by Bobbi McKean, an associate professor in the UA's School of Theatre Arts.

The UA's school will be presenting the production, "Way Out West," as part of Stories on Stage, which is a project that focuses on theater for young audience. The productions are always based on children's literature.

UA students who participate with Stories on Stage collaborate on theatrical performances during the spring. All performances are based on literature geared toward children.

The upcoming performance will feature three stories created especially for those age 5 to 7-year-olds. The stories are "Little Red Cowboy Hat," "The Bootmaker and the Elves" and "The Tortoise and the Jackrabbit."

The performance will be held May 4 at 7 p.m. at the UA's Marroney Theatre, which is located near the southeast corner of Park Avenue and Speedway Boulevard.

All seats are $5, though no children under the age of 5 will be permitted to attend. For ticket information, contact the UA Fine Arts Box Office at 520-621-1162. The Box Office is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
