Dr. Gordon Ewy demonstrating Continuous-Chest-Compression CPR.
The University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center is offering a free demonstration of Continuous-Chest-Compression CPR for the public with hands-on training on life-like mannequins. The demonstration takes place Aug. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the DuVal Auditorium at University Medical Center.
Experienced and specially trained medical students will be available to walk through the necessary steps and answer questions by participants.
Chest-Compression-Only CPR or Hands-Only CPR, as the American Heart Association calls it, is an easier and more efficient way to help a victim of cardiac arrest.
Developed at the UA by the Sarver Heart Center, the technique has been endorsed by the American Heart Association. Chest-Compression-Only CPR is easy to learn, easy to remember and easy to perform. There is no need for mouth-to-mouth breathing.
Research has shown that calling 911 followed by administering continuous-chest-compression CPR is the single most effective way to increase the chance of survival for cases of sudden cardiac arrest in adults.
