The UA's Union Gallery is featuring the installation artwork of graduate student Christopher McGinnis.

A new exhibition features the artwork of a University of Arizona graduate student who explores the nation's industrial history.

The exhibition, "Heritage," opened Aug. 24 at the UA's Lionel Rombach Gallery and the showcase will remain on display through Sept. 9.

Christopher McGinnis, a UA master of fine arts student, has explored the nation's industrial legacy and the relationship that legacy has to the land.

McGinnis has shown his work in New York and Croatia, among other locaitons across the United States and Europe, and also has also been published in locally and internationally. Last year, McGinnis collaborated last year with Douglas R. Nielsen, a UA dance professor, on a project entitled, "The Habit of Facing Front."

The current exhibition is an installation piece featuring more than 30 paintings that focus on the automotive and construction industries while exploring topics such as large-scale production.

The installation also comments on the gravity of our current crisis by predicting the future decline of American industrial culture. One piece in particular references the Washington Monument and is created from various low-cost construction materials and coated in high gloss automotive enamel.

The gallery's hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The gallery is free and open to the public and is located at the UA School of Art, which is at the corner of N. Park Ave. and East Speedway Blvd.
