  • Conference Promotes Access for Language-Learners
    UANews | The National Center for Interpretation at the UA has designed a mini-conference to train the local community how to ensure language access for individuals not proficient in the English language.
  • UA Major Producer of U.S. Fulbright Recipients
    UANews | The UA has been consistently named one of the nation's top producers of Fulbright Scholars. This year, the University was named to the top 20 category overall and top 10 among public institutions.
  • UA to Induct New Regents' and Distinguished Professors
    UANews | A December ceremony will honor S. James Anaya, professor of law; Edgar Dryden, professor of English; and Marcia Rieke, professor of astronomy, as new Regents' Professors, and Mary M. Poulton, mining and geological engineering head, as a University Distinguished Professor.

    UANews | Natalie Youngbull, a UA doctoral student, has been elected as a student board member for the National Indian Education Association to help promote higher education for Native American students. 
  • UA-Led Program Graduates Risk Managers in Ethiopia
    UANews | UA instructors fostered the first class of Ethiopian students graduating with master's degrees in disaster risk science and sustainable development at Bahir Dar University. Two more groups are in the pipeline, and plans are to train non-academic professionals as well.
  • World Higher Education Leaders Gather at UA Workshop
    UANews | The Equitable Access and Success Workshop is part of International Education Week and brings together representatives of 10 universities from Asia and the Americas to improve equitable access and successful retention of learners from under-represented groups.
  • Arizona State Museum Exhibit Highlights History of Mexico
    UANews | "Many Mexicos: Vistas de la Frontera" traces the development of the country from its pre-Columbian indigenous roots through conquest, civil war and international relations. The exhibit is curated by Michael Brescia, author of two books on Mexico's history.
  • Program to Aid Students with Intellectual Disabilities
    UANews | The UA is the only institution in the state this year to be awarded U.S. Secretary of Education funding under a new program to help students with intellectual disabilities transition into college.
  • UA to Host Symposium on Video Observational Research
    UANews | Faculty members from the UA Norton School and three invited scholars will explore how to use video to improve support for military families throughout the world. The symposium is part of a $6 million grant and likely will impact other youth education programs.
  • UA Program Merges Poetry and the Outdoors
    UANews | Poetry Goes for a Hike is a new program that allows writers to take a new lead in poetry with the fresh air around them. Open to poets of all levels, the program offers a little bit of exercise and a little bit of instruction, stressing an appreciation of both ecology and poetry.
  • Documenting Downtown Tucson's Urban Renewal
    UANews | Lydia R. Otero's newly published book centers on tourism, urban renewal and the construction of histories in Tucson. The UA Press hosted a release party in November that was free and open to the public.
  • Senior Citizens Face a Future of Mobility Challenges
    UANews | UA researcher Sandra Rosenbloom will tell federal transportation officials that the time has come to plan for a much larger cohort of older people who will still need to get around. Most older seniors will be women, who will have a different set of mobility issues than men.
  • Deconstructing the FAFSA, Scholarship Application Processes
    UANews | The UA has launched its Scholarship Universe, a Web-based program that will deliver scholarship information directly to students based on their academic and personal interests. Meanwhile, ASUA is co-hosting financial aid workshops.
